I am trying to use a flow with a Visio application. However, when I run the flow it starts a new Visio application but I need it to use the one that is already running, not start a new instance.

Assuming that you are running a UI Flow, while recording the flow, did you start the application by double clicking the folder or by searching some strings? You might want to record a way where you directly reference the file that you want to open.
