How do you create a Promoted Links list with Http Request?

Hi everyone, 

I am trying to create a promoted links list in Sharepoint with a http request. 

I read somewhere that the base template for this is 170, but this doesn't work for me... and I also can't find this in the Template Type enumeration list https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/office/sharepoint-server/ms413878(v=office.15)?redirectedfrom=MSDN

 

So now I am a bit confused and wondering if this is a own type of list at all or if it is just a different view type. 

 

Does someone have a tip to have I can make this list?

    Just did a quick check with PnP PowerShell. Looks like the base template id of a Promoted Links list is 170.

    However, I don't know if the creation of this list type via REST API is supported. Normally I use the Quick Links instead of the Promoted Links feature myself.

    Thanks for the swift reply @Expiscornovus 

     

    Pity that it is not supported. Unfortunately my client really wants those large tiles as they will work as navigation between different pages. Otherwise, I would have tried your quick links solution. 

     

    Do you if there is any possible work around? Maybe copying a empty promoted tiles list and use that as a template.

    Hi @Anonymous,

     

    The quick links web part has a Tiles layout option. It also supports icons, images and target audiences.

    I will have also have a look if there is a workaround with the older tiles list though.
