Issues with Power Automate and Dynamics F&O Screens using Browser Automation

I have a few procedures I have tried to automate on the Dynamics F&O application and the recorder doesn't seem to do a good job identifying screen elements or recording. The biggest issues I have seen are clicking on items in a grid view and the click doesn't get recognized so the screen never changes.

Then the image below is an example where I tried to automate changing the connection string and I can click the "Show" which changes the box above as an Input Text but then when I actually enter text is isn't recognized so the automation will never complete successfully.

While my issues have been specific to screens in F&O I am guessing that the bigger issue is the UI within the web side and the design/CSS that the recorder isn't able to 'see' the unique elements.

This leads me to wonder if there is anything I can do to improve my success with recording using browser automation.  I haven't had much success with navigating complex web apps to be able to automate so far. It really has made Power Automate desktop useless for most of the use cases I have attempted.

I would love suggestions because the concept has so much promise.

    Dear Marc,

I hear your frustration combined with an appreciation of the potential.

Is there no way that you can automate this via the back-end/data-entities and not using the interface?

I am afraid that if you have to go in via the interface, you will always have 'interpretation' issues (at least I do).

    • What has helped me a lot in the past is to learn how to customize elements to fit to more situations (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-automate/desktop-flows/build-custom-selectors).
    • In addition, building in error-catching has helped me ensure that the flow continues to run despite incidental issues. So users only have to step in for 1 out of 100 items so to say.
    • Lastly, by what you describe, it sounds like the element you are referring to is changing in the interface ... did you change your elements as well to match this change (such that it recognizes them)?

Hope this can help you a bit. If so, please indicate in the thread.

    Happy flowing,

    Koen

Unfortunately, I have not found an entity yet that exposes the data I'm trying to update so I have been trying to use this as an alternative. In cases, I have entities exposed I'm able to use a cloud flow to do updates and when I don't have an entity exposed, like a system configuration I would need to develop a new entity.

I will see if I can figure out how to "change your elements" in the desktop flow to try to get them recognized.

Is it an iframe by any chance?
