Hi i'm a beginner, can someone please assist me on this.

Case : i have multiple name files with unique first few letters (test_doc10_<dateandtime>.xls, payment_doc12_<dateandtime>.xls, transaction_doc20_<dateandtime>.xls etc.) in the same folder.

Now i want to transfer first few unique matching names (test_doc10_*.xls, payment_doc12_*.xls, transaction_doc20_*.xls) files to different folder in SharePoint.

Can someone please share how can i achieve this with step by step.

Note : I have installed Microsoft On-Premises Data Gateway service on the file server where I have those files.

Have you estabished a connection between FLOW and the SERVER.  And tested this.  If not then perhaps you can confirm when you have as this is likley to be the first issue we have to resolve.  And I DO NOT have a SERVER or knowlege of this.

Hi Andrew,Thanks for your response. Yes both are connected and i can see the created gateway in Power Automate. But don't know what Automated Cloud Flow should i create.

Just to let you know i have a basic flow created, whenever new file created it will be copy to the sharepoint which is working fine but i want a automated cloud flow as per the above Case.

Andrew, Just to let you know, this flow is working fine just because all connections are good.

Brillient news, but from your oringnal case above it is still not clear in my mind.

    Your statment below:

Case : i have multiple name files with unique first few letters (test_doc10_<dateandtime>.xls, payment_doc12_<dateandtime>.xls, transaction_doc20_<dateandtime>.xls etc.) in the same folder.

I assume these are the files on the SERVER?

And you want to transfer some of these to the CLOUD?

Can you look at using a table such as the below in your responce with full file names:

Files on SERVERFiles to be copied to CLOUD

    Regards,

    Andrew

Assume for the moment that we receive all three types of files in the same folder on the file server every day, with the day and time generated in the field .

Since the date and time on the cloud file will be updated daily based on the creation date and time by the file server application, I have noted * in that field.

Files on SERVERFiles to be copied to CLOUDRemarks
test_doc10_<dateandtime>.xlsTest_doc_*.xlsfile name start with Test_doc should be transferred to cloud "TestDoc" folder
payment_doc12_<dateandtime>.xlspayment_doc12_*.xlsfile name start with payment_doc12 should be transferred to cloud "Payment" folder
transaction_doc20_<dateandtime>.xlstransaction_doc20_*.xlsfile name start with transaction_doc20 should be transferred to cloud "Transaction" folder

To make my case summary clearer for everyone to understand. I hope it is now clear that I have files on file server that have a few unique first characters. I need to use Power Automate Cloud Flow to transfer the files to SharePoint based on those unique characters to different SharePoint destination location.

    Please help on this !!!!!!

Thanks that helps a lot very clear now.

As I said I am not an expert in the SERVER side.  The steps will be as follows:

    • Manually trigger the flow
    • List files in a folder - your server folder

Then we need to split out for the three types above with a condtion which may need a case of paralle branch for each of the three file name strings you mentioned above.

    • Filter array - where you set the lookup to match the file name
    • Apply to each
    • Get file content - for
    • Create file - in the correct CLOUD folder

If you are ojkay as new member to setup the server side link I assume you can play around with the above to make that part work.

    Regards,

    Andrew

Okay, so you said the following was working:

    Andrew_J_0-1712573991666.png

I assume that the above was copying each file on the SERVER to CLOUD but you want to sort this out into the folders in your SharePoint Docment Library as you have stated above.   Can you confirm I am reading this correctly.

Then we can work on the sorting this for you.

    Andrew
