Incremental Unique ID

Good Morning All,

I'm hoping someone may be able to help me, I have a simple list:

All of my jobs for 2023 will eventually be on this list. The job number needs to be in the format of YY-00000 as above.

When I add an item, if the list is empty I would like the unique job number to have a 1 at the end automatically.

Then for each item added, I would like it to somehow increment the new job number +1.

So the next item in this list would be 23-00002.

I don't want to rely on the system ID column as I may end up deleting items.

I'm still getting to grips with Power Automate, is there a way I can achieve this?

Many Thanks,

Pete

    @Pete_ ,

You could create another column in your SP list named "Sequence" which keeps the sequence of jobs.

Your Job number field could just be a calculated field based on the value of sequence.

In your Power automate, On item creation, query the items in your list ordered descending by Sequence and pick the first item.

Add 1 to the value and set the Sequence field of the new record.

    Thanks @SudeepGhatakNZ!

I am new to Power Automate and I have some really basic questions:

How would the Sequence column work?

How do I make a calculated field?

Where in the flow do I put the 'Get Items' action?

Your solution is promising and I will try it but I would really appreciate if you were able to break down the steps a little bit further?

    Thanks in advance.

    Pete

    Hi @SudeepGhatakNZ

I am still trying to get this to work unsuccessfully.

Are you able to explain how to build this list and flow in a bit more detail please?

    Kind Regards,

    Pete

    Hi,

Have you solved this issue yet? I also have some issues when creating the flow.

    Thanks
