Approved by column in SharePoint library is not populated - Power automate flow

Hi, I have built an approval flow in Power Automate connected to a SharePoint library. I needed the 'Approved by' column to be visible in SharePoint, therefore I added a new column (the first time as single text and the second time as a People column). In the flow, once the document gets approved, I added a step to update a few fields in the SharePoint library among which there was the 'Approved by' column with the dynamic value ' Response approver name'.

If I upload a document, start the approval process, and approve the document, the 'Approved by' Column does not get populated. It stays empty.

Do you have any idea what could be the issue?

I've followed these steps, but the Approved by column is not populated at the end of the flow. (Link: (1) Showing approved by and date - SharePoint Columns - Power Platform Community (microsoft.com))

Thanks in advance for your help.

You probably need to use a different value than "Response Approver Name" since that is just a person's name.

You should try using the "Principal Name" value which is a unique user name (usually an email address) which can identify a specific user.

Thanks for your answer, but I forgot to mention that I did try using the Principal name and it didn't work either. It was still empty.

So you have 2 columns in your SharePoint list:

    • ApprovedBy-SingleLineTextType
    • ApprovedBy-PeopleType

If you put the flow to update both of those column with the Principal Name, they are both blank?

I'm trying to test if this is an issue with getting the value into SharePoint, or if this is an issue with the People lookup column.

If the column ApprovedBy-SingleLineTextType is populated with the Principal Name, then we know our issue is just with the People lookup column.

If the column ApprovedBy-SingleLineTextType is blank, then we know our issue is with getting the correct value from the flow.
