Hello all,

I have desigend a rather large flow (at least I think it is large; 60+ actions) and would like to document this flow as it is part of our business process. Are there tools that can help me with this?

I was thinking about MS Visio but have not been able to export my flow and read them into Visio

Please share your thoughts & idea's?

Thank you

Regards

Charles

Unfortunately there are currently no apps or methods for documenting flows. Ther eare a couple of uservoice requests for this, for example https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/Flow-Ideas/Print-or-copy-Flow-steps-for-documentation/idi-p/204006

With Visio Online Plan 2 you can Design a Flow in Visio and export it to Flow. Also Power Platforms Admin Center at admin.powerplatform.microsoft.com also provides some insights with more slated for the future.

Taking large, full-page screenshots is also helpful too. I use the Full Page Screen Capture browser extension, and document my Flows in OneNote. You can also export a Flow to JSON or a ZIP and use the Flow Management Connector

    Hi @Charles-v-D ,

You could consider export you flow as a package and when needed import it into a different environment:

    https://flow.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/import-export-bap-packages/

Besides, you could also make a copy of your flow to maintain a draft of your working flow as you work on adding more functionality:

    https://flow.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/make-a-copy/

    Best regards,

    Mabel

I was searching the forums to see what others are doing regarding documentation and came across this post. I found a solution called PowerDocu that Rene Modery built and published in GitHub that automates the documentation of a flow, solution or Power App. You export it as a package, then run his application on the ZIP file and it automatically generates a diagram of the flow and a Word file with all details. You can find details at modery/PowerDocu: Generate technical documentation from your existing Power Automate Flows and Power Apps canvas apps (github.com)

He also has a YouTube video where he demos his solution at Automatically generate technical documentation of your Power Apps and Power Automate Flows - YouTube.

    • I have not used it, but has anyone else?
    • Do you find documentation useful or a waste of time?
    • Have you found any other solutions for documenting your flow?

    Kind regards,

    David

Bloody brilliant.  Using it for PowerAutomate documentation.

    Thanks Rene Modery
