Hello, I have a Power Automate that fails when it goes to send a email to the user who has clicked on a trigger within power bi.
Please help me fix the error :)

The error....
The 'inputs.parameters' of workflow operation 'Send_an_email_(V2)' of type 'OpenApiConnection' is not valid. Error details: Input parameter 'emailMessage/To' is required to be of type 'String/email'. The runtime value '"c346e036-05cb-47f7-baee-de54c41ac1e2"' to be converted doesn't have the expected format 'string/email'.

    Hi,

It looks like you have an incorrect dynamic content included by accident in your To input, on the Send email action:

It looks like you want to use only the User email dynamic content, and not the Outputs. If it still doesn't work, please share the part of the raw outputs of your trigger that contains the User email property, so we can see how Power Automate is reading it. If you don't know how to access the raw outputs, refer to this article: http://digitalmill.net/2023/06/29/how-to-access-the-raw-outputs-in-power-automate/

Let me know if it works for you or if you need any additional help!

    Hi,

Just to confirm: in the context of the sample usage from where you shared the outputs, is ian.boothman@something.com the correct email address to be used as To in your Send email action? I'm asking it, because this is likely the email address of the user that clicked the button in PBI report, triggering the flow.

If yes, then, you can use the following expression in your Send email action: triggerOutputs()['headers']['x-ms-user-email']

For adding an expression, you just need to click in the To input, and select the Expression tab (highlighted in red) when the dynamic content windows appear. Then you just paste the expression above in the Fx input field (highlighted in yellow):

This expression will add the value from x-ms-user-email-encoded header as the email destination in your Send email action. After running the flow, this is the output:

If you want to learn more about expressions in Power Automate, check this article that I recently wrote: http://digitalmill.net/2024/02/27/writing-expressions-in-power-automate/
