having a button in a card in a form stay in edit mode even when the form is in the view mode - possible?

Hi,

I have a custom card + button in a form that allows me to expand/collapse form sections (via parameters + visible property). Now my issue is that this works perfectly when the form is in edit mode, but stops working when the form is in view mode. I have tried to hard set the Display Mode of the card+button to "Edit" (so no Parent display mode), but this does not seem to be working - the form mode overrules the components mode.

Is there a way to overcome this?

Thanks

Kind regards

Valeria

    Hi @ValeriaBreve ,

If the button is in a card when the Form is in View Mode, then (as you have noted), it will not work. If you From does not scroll beyond the screen height, simply put the button "on top" (not in the Form.

Hi, thanks! No, unfortunately the button needs to scroll. I have so many fields in my form, I started by making tabs to organize the content (following Shane Young's tutorial), but then I still need to put more information on each tab than a screen can handle and I wanted to somehow group sections to make it easier to read and not have the users scroll down so much.

So you have any other suggestions to try and "group" the cards by section? Thanks!!!! 🙂

    Hi @ValeriaBreve ,

Other than tabbed forms (another good video from @RezaDorrani here, which will keep you on the screen, you cannot "detect" where a form exceeding the height of the screen is scrolled to at any point, so a dynamic Y on the button outside the form is not possible. As noted previously, the button will not work in View mode if in a card in the form.

    Hi @ValeriaBreve ,

When it comes to forms and datacards you can manipulate the components within as well as the card itself. I'd suggest you adjust the displaymode of the datacard to reflect what you are looking for then letting the form do it for you. You tend to see "Parent.DisplayMode" on the items.
If you feel you have the time, you could remove it from the form altogether and use custom components and use a Patch function to submit it. I find this to be more versatile than forms because of your type of issues.

    @ValeriaBreve ,

Note that changing the mode of a Data Card (to Edit rather than Parent.Default) or object within it still does not "activate" the button if the Form is on View mode (try it yourself).

Hi Warren, OK, so I have not missed anything - tabs are my first go-to and I will definitely watch the video you suggested! And yes, I have well noticed that the form mode overrides the children objects mode, hence my post :-). Thanks a lot for the help!

    Hi!

You can create an HTML overlay. Microsoft does the same trick when you add a hyperlink field/datacard to a form.

    • Add an HTML-text element
    • Concatenate("<a href='";DataCardValue46.Text;"'>";DataCardValue46.Text;"</a>")
    • Overlay this element over another desired element (such as a button)

Now it looks as if your button (or another element) is clickable. It can stay in the form. And you don't have to change the formmode.
