Relating Post to an Entity

Hello flow experts,

I really struggle with CDS action on now "create a new row" on Post entity. I feel that I'm missing out on something or take totally wrong measures.

What I need to do is to generate Auto-Post on a Case when an event happens to notify a user about it.

My action looks like this. I cannot find any field where I could relate that post to my Case. Do you have any ideas why this is not present here? It is so obvious that a Post should always relate to something.

Any help will be appreciated.

Regards,

Konrad

    Hi @indyanin,

    Strange issue.

Maybe it is also worth checking the Dynamics 365 Forums if they got some pointers on the Web API approach:

    https://community.dynamics.com/365/f/dynamics-365-general-forum

Also I would try and raise a support ticket in your tenant admin centre, if that's possible?

@Expiscornovus you got me on this 😂

Yeap I have already tried with the Web API first, but with no lack and then I decided to try flow with the same result. I think this some kind of bug on MS side because it works ok with the Note entity which is very similar at the end of the day.

    Hi @indyanin,

You are correct. In my environment it wasn't configured. But that was expected behavior 😃 I was just double checking that the feature was available on your environment.

When I am looking at the post request/create new record I am also missing the option to set the _regardingobjectid_value.

Have you tried using the Dynamics 365 Web API with an HTTP action instead? In that action you can specify the body yourself, that might be a good workaround to be able to set the regarding object id?

@Expiscornovus I think the post entity is not going anywhere and it's still in use. Maybe you cannot see it due to your privilege limitations. Do you have admin rights in your environment?

I don't see other options fit for what I'm trying to accomplish. Auto-posts are great to notify about an event, such as this OOB auto-post when account is created.

In my env I have the option to manually create a post unlike you.

    Hi @indyanin,

I wasn't aware it was still possible to configure the posts feature on activity feeds configuration in Dynamics 365/CDS. Have you done that for the case entity?

Otherwise I would use one of other activity types to post something on the timeline of the case instead.
