Catalog template item installation fails when dependent on custom connector

Use case: Create solution which contains a custom connector and publish it to Catalog as Managed. Create another solution which contains sample flow showcasing the custom connector and publish it to Catalog as Template and thus Unmanaged. Consumers should install Catalog item containing custom connector first and then Catalog item with the sample flow to be able to play around and modify it.

Issue: After installing Catalog item with custom connector and then trying to install Catalog item with sample flow utilizing the connector installation fails on step 'Setp up connections' with message 'Something went wrong. Please try again later.' and 'The connection could not be loaded. Please try again later'.

In Chrome developer tools when observing REST API calls performed, I can see a failed request:

with response:
{
    "error": {
        "code": "ApiResourceNotFound",
        "message": "Could not find API 'shared_new-5fpetstore-20connector-5f96a760c7aa9219e4'."
    }
}

The problem seems to be that it is trying to fetch the custom connector information using custom connector id relevant for environment where both Catalog item solutions were originally created. After installing custom connector to new environment via Catalog it receives a new id. It seems that the other dependent Catalog template item containing sample flow referencing the custom connector cannot reconciliate this situation and the installation fails.

Steps to reproduce:
  1. Go to https://make.powerautomate.com/
  2. Create new Solution with name 'PetStore Connector'
  3. Open solution and add new Custom Connector
    1. In Swagger editor paste Json from petstore.swagger.io/v2/swagger.json
    2. In Definition delete all operations except 'getInventory' for simplicity
    3. Create connector
    4. The id of the custom connector in this environment is 'shared_new-5Fpetstore-20connector-5F96a760c7aa9219e4'
  4. Publish this solution to Catalog as Managed item
  5. Create new Solution with name 'PetStore Connector Templates' with sample flow showcasing the custom connector but not including it directly
    1. Open solution and add new Instant flow which will call the 'getInventory' operation
    2. Create new Connection for PetStore API and populate api-key value with: special-key
  6. Publish this solution to Catalog as Template
  7. Switch to target environment
  8. From Catalog install item containing custom connector -> the id of the custom connector in this environment is 'shared_new-5fpetstore-20connector-5f81b48e22c49e443a'
  9. From Catalog try to install item containing the sample flow depending on custom connector -> this fails

Any help how to overcome this issue would be welcome.

    Can you see whether manually setting up the connection of custom connector and then trying to install the template ?

    I am having the same issues with another custom connector.

    Creating the connection beforehand like @Nived_Nambiar proposes does not work either.
