It doesn't appear we can specify a table of search fields in the modern combobox like the SearchFields property in the old combo box. I'm sure the team are aware of this and I have sent feedback but just wondering if there's a workaround?
Hello, @Digital, at this time the model combo box doesn't support the search field property. What you can do is if you have a the items property set to a table, you can bring the column that you want to search by to the top of the list of fields. Note the first field will be the display field as well as the search field.

Thanks @AhmedSalih , I worked out that changing the order of the cards changes the search and display field. The way I have the old style combo box set up is with two columns: Client and Project. Users can search on either column but Project is the display column. I will stick with the old combobox for now as my users need this functionality. Cheers!
Note @Digital, the modern Combo Box still in the preview so the GA version might have other proprities.
