Send an HTTP request to SharePoint document library to update column

I am getting a 400 error when trying to update metadata to sharepoint document library. This is my error:

status": 400,
 "message": "The property '__metadata' does not exist on type 'SP.Data.<librayName>Item'

This is the body I am sending

{
 "__metadata": { "type": "SP.Data.<libraryName>Item" },
 "<hyperlinkColumnName>": {
 "__metadata": { "type": "SP.FieldUrlValue" },
 "Description": "<validDescription>",
 "Url": "<validURL>"
 }
}

This works fine for listItems but I cannot get this to update the library column. Any ideas why it's saying "__metadata" is not valid?

I am able to add files and create folders fine, I am unable to update column data on a Document Library
