Fluid date picker won't work where standard date picker does?

I am trying to add a fluid date picker to a gallery, but the value is never returned when selected.

 

I through a standard date picker in the gallery and it worked just fine.

I've tried multiple ways to get it to work, but no joy.

 

Has anyone else ever run across this?

    Just noticed that this only occurs when I'm using a Blank Flexible Height Gallery.  If I use a Vertical gallery it's fine.
