Uploaded Knowledge Not Returning Answers

Thank you for taking the time to read my question.

I have uploaded knowledge to my custom CoPilot in Word.docx format, PDF format and HTM and HTML format. I ask my custom CoPilot a question once the green Ready icon is beside my uploaded Knowledge file but my custom CoPilot almost never returns an answer. I was fortunate to get once answer out of it but my question pertained to information in the very first paragraph of my document. I then asked a question that pertained to the last paragraph in my document and my CoPilot stopped working again.

I have also turned off "Allow the AI to use its own general knowledge (preview)" as I want the answers to come from my document.

I have read as many web sites as I can find to determine what I'm doing wrong, but so far I'm not able to find an answer.

In my Word.docx file I use the Styles to denote sections like Title, Heading 1, Heading 2... to try and denote what data belongs together but still no success.

Any help would be great.

thanks!

    Try below options:
    1. Set content moderation to Low/Medium
    2. Ask a few simple and generic questions to check if Generative answer node is returning any responses
    3. Rephrase your question/prompt and ask diff

I've experienced similar issues with Copilot struggling to understand the context and content of my documents, particularly with complex structures.

One approach that improved its performance for me was creating better prompts. Additionally, I found that using the "Topic" function to divide complex documents into different sections or topics helped significantly. This approach seems to aid the model in chunking the documents and understanding the content more effectively.

You can also create specific triggers and prompts for these topics, which can help the model locate the relevant content more accurately.

This might be a current limitation of Copilot compared to models like GPT-4 or Gemini, which tend to handle complex documents more effectively.

    Thanks again for your replies.

Due to your replies I slowed down and really looked at what I had set up... and WHERE. I then noticed that my CoPilot was set up in our companies default environment, which is in the European tenant. I recreated my CoPilot in a different environment that exists in the US tenant and all worked as expected with out having to create any prompts/triggers/topics or anything. I just worked!

    Thanks again for your help

That's great to hear! I think it might be some settings you can enable on the tenant rather than completely changing the tenant to the US. We are using it on our tenant in the EU (Nordic), and it works fine. I remember that our admin configured and enabled some settings in the tenant before we start to work with copilot studio.

This link may have instructions for the solution. Please check it out if you want to try making the EU tenant work with Copilot: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/copilot/microsoft-365/microsoft-365-copilot-enable-users
