Would you manipulate the string on Cloud Flow or PAD?

I have a manually triggered Cloud Flow that interacts with a PAD Flow. The PAD performs it's steps and will pass some Variables back to the Cloud Flow. The Variables require some String Functions before it is usable.

My question is, would you perform the String Functions in PAD before the Variable is passed to the Cloud Flow or in Cloud Flow after it receives the Variables from PAD? Why?

Similarly, if both Cloud and PAD can both perform the same function, where should the solution be built? Why? What are the considerations?

In my opinion, you should perform the string functions in Power Automate Desktop and only return the information you need back to the flow.  Think of the "Run A Flow Built With Power Automate Desktop" action as a function in any other programming language.  When designing a function you would:

    • Pass arguments into the function (inputs)
    • Do something
    • Return a value or values (outputs)

For example: lets say the purpose of the Power Automate Desktop flow is to get numbers that will be summed.  We could either return the table of numbers to Power Automate or return a single number.  We should return the single number because we only need the sum and not the other values.

    Thanks. Makes sense.

Appreciate alternative view and reasoning if any.
