Create an event in the calendar of a Public Folder

Hello,

I am trying to create an event in the calendar of a Public Folder. I have created a public folder and added my user as owner. I can view the public folder in the Outlook app and could create a shared calendar inside it.

If I check the calendars inside "Create event (V4)" action, I don't see the calendar. I see my personal calendar and some other shared calendars. I have attached the screenshot of the same.

I checked the similar question posted in 2020 at that time it was not possible. https://community.powerplatform.com/forums/thread/details/?threadid=4d8bc4cb-1a7a-4001-925f-8844012fa6bf

I would like to check if there is a way with latest updates to add the event to the Public Folder's shared calendar using Power Automate.

Thank you!

As of now, creating events directly in a Public Folder's calendar using Power Automate's standard connectors isn't supported. Public Folders in Exchange are designed for shared access within Outlook, but their integration capabilities with external tools like Power Automate are limited.

    Alternative Approaches:

    1. Using Microsoft Graph API:

      • While the Microsoft Graph API offers extensive capabilities for interacting with various Microsoft 365 services, it currently doesn't support operations on Public Folders. Therefore, creating events in a Public Folder's calendar via the Graph API isn't feasible.
    2. Utilizing Shared Mailboxes:

      • Instead of using Public Folders, consider setting up a Shared Mailbox with a calendar. Shared Mailboxes are fully supported by both Power Automate and the Microsoft Graph API.
      • Steps:
        1. Create a Shared Mailbox in the Microsoft 365 admin center.
        2. Assign the necessary permissions to users who need access.
        3. In Power Automate, use the "Create event (V4)" action.
        4. In the Calendar Id field, input the Shared Mailbox's email address to create events in its calendar.

This approach provides a more seamless integration and allows for automated event creation without manual intervention.

    Summary:
Due to the current limitations in integrating Public Folders with Power Automate, transitioning to a Shared Mailbox calendar is a practical solution. This setup ensures compatibility and leverages the full capabilities of Power Automate for calendar event management.
