Run Excel Macro Webservice Lookup

Hi Powerapp community,

Is it possible to convert the following Excel workbook to a Powerapp:

1. Collect 1 or more data strings.

2. Press a button to do a webservice lookup validation (true and string, or False)

3. Return results.

I basically have a workbook where I can paste 100's of VAT numbers. This gets validated online and returns true and address, or false for each VAT number.

However, when connecting to the Sharepoint location with the Powerapp Web service, I do not see where to go from there.

It would be great if I can turn this workbook into a powerapp.

    Hi @roaze2000

I have found that with a little patience almost anything is possible in PowerApps.

I understand that you use a web service for VAT number validation and address return.

    Is that correct?

If so, can this web service become a custom api in PowerApps?

    https://powerapps.microsoft.com/en-us/tutorials/register-custom-api/

If that is the case, then yes you can relatively easily achieve what you require.

PS I assume that you mention SharePoint only because this is the location where you store your Excel workbook, adn not because it has any process function

    Hi Meneghino,

I do not own the API, it is a simple "GET" function, based on input data string in my workbook. (loops untill input is exhausted)

The FREE service runs here: http://vatid.eu/check/

The app would look like an input screen, where user separates vat numbers with a comma, press send/validate.

Second screen would return scrollable results; ie: VAT number one true, address suchandsuch, VAT number two, False, etc...

yes, the Sharepoint connection i make from within PowerApps seems useless, hence the post.

Thanks for your quick response. Is there any way I can "embed" the code in the powerapp button?

Ok, there seem to be a number of EU VAT validator api's out there so it is likely that we can find one that can be added as a custom api to PowerApps.  Please see here for an example I did to get ECB (European Central Bank) fx rates.

Once that is done, the rest will be relatively simple:

    1. Text input for the pasting of comma separated VAT numbers
    2. Recursive algorithm to loop until no more VAT numbers are found.  We will need to limit the maximum number of items, but can be very large.  This is because I do not believe it is possible to have infinite recursion in PowerApps
    3. Collect each VAT number in a collection
    4. Custom gallery to display the results collection in a scrollable manner and text boxes to call the VAT api function to get the result

For performance purposes you will need to experiment with calling the VAT function in step 4 as I suggest or in step 3

Please let me know if you need help with any of the above,

    Ok, thanks!

I will find the time somehow and try it out. As this would be an on the go app, I do not expect a large number of vat numbers to be entered, we have the excel for that.
