We have a service account that runs around 40 power automate schduled and automated flows. now I want to change the service account password for security purposes, so i login to the service account click on "View account" link:-

and i clicked on the "Password" link:-

I entered the number inside the microsoft authnticator >> I typed the new password and i confirmed it... now i logout and relogin using the new password. but i thought that all the Power Platform connections will need to be reauthnticated, but i can see that all the connections are still valid (mainly connections to SharePoint, OneDrive, Outlook, etc), as follow:-

Although i did the reset around 2 hours ago.. any advice?

    Hi John,

They automatically sync, you don't need to do anything.  I change service account often and I don't have to touch the cloud connections.  If you have a desktop flow, you will need to reauthenticate the desktop flow connection though.

@@@trice602 thanks for the reply.. but based on my previouse experience, i faced those 2 issues in the past:-

    1) the admin reset a password for a service account without informing me, and then the flows stopped working, so when i login to Power Platform using the service account, i got a popup that many connections need to be reauthnticated, so i need to reenter the new passwrord.

    2) last week an admin set a MFA to a service account and we faced the same issue with the connection

the only difference, is that in the prevoiuse 2 cases the admin reset the password and apply the MFA, but in my case i did that using the service account itself,  from "View Account" >> "Password"... not sure how things works.. i am confused.. any advice? Thanks

    Hi,

My best guess is since you logged in and reset the password while logged into the service account, you don't need to do anything (at least that is my experience for the last couple of years). The previous issues broke connections because the PW was not changed in the account while logged into the service account, the admin just reset it and that would break the links.

Let me know how this turns out please, really curious to see if I was correct.

Atleast after 10 hours of resetting the password all the connections are still connected and they are showing that they have been Modified recently some are showing 1 hours ago, other are showing 32 minutes ago.. so seems the connection is been updated behind the scenses,, so my guess is that i am not require to reauthnticate the connections... will keep my eyes on the connections and update this question... insteresting , i always think that resetting a service account password will require reauthnticating the connections, until yesterday :)

Changing the password on a connection account won't immediately break the connection because its using OAuth authentication. A token was created using the password when the connection was first established. That connection will re-sync the token after a period of time. I think its every thirty days. During that time period the authentication is independent from the account/password used when it was created.  So changing the password will eventually require resetting the connection, but it will only happen when the OAuth token needs to be renewed.

That looks really weired, so the connections might break anytime after 30 days? is there a way to expire the current token immediatly so i can reauthnticate them now?

    Thanks

Hi @johnjohnPter, did you get the conclusion on this issue? I faced the same issue here. I was notified that the service account password has been reset, I thought all the connections using the service account requires the reauthentication. But when I logged in the service account, all connections were showing as connected, no need to fix the connection by reauthentication. It's weird to my understanding... Hope you have the conclusion now. Thank you in advance!
