Cancel Power BI refresh on email received

Hello,

I need to build a flow that either refreshes a Power BI semantics model given a measure from Power BI or cancels a the refresh based on a received email. There is a trigger for refreshing a Power BI model but there seems to be none for cancelling a refresh. Can I extract a current measure value from a semantics model and refresh the model based on the value?

- Many thanks

You can issue the cancellation request as a REST API call, but only if the refresh was initiated via an API call as well.

NOTE:  It is only a cancellation REQUEST. There is no guarantee whatsoever that this request will be considered or actioned upon by the Power BI service.  Most of the time the refresh is too far advanced to be canceled.

My idea was more if I have a scheduled refresh at 10:00 am and send a cancellation of that update at say 9:00 am. Would that be impossible?

then you would have to use this call

Datasets - Update Refresh Schedule In Group - REST API (Power BI Power BI REST APIs) | Microsoft Learn

You will probably want to abandon the schedule altogether and switch to an event based refresh.  Much more efficient.

Makes sense, is it possible to get a measure value from power bi and trigger a refresh if it is a certain value?

yes, you can run DAX queries from Power Automate and then react to the returned result as needed.
