Task dependency for Planner tasks

Hi Guys,

Is there a way we can set task dependency for Planner tasks? By dependency, I mean Task B is dependent on Task A so users has to finish TASK B first in order to mark complete Task A.

    Hi @Rav_Chadha ,

I am afraid there is no action in Power Automate to achieve such a demand.

You could consider adding the same prefix or suffix to the subject of two tasks to create the relationship between the tasks.

This is helpful to find another related task through one task.

    Hope this helps.

    Best Regards,

Dear Microsoft, I really enjoy using MS Teams within my company.  As a PM it is almost perfect to manage a project as we can share files, tasks, call, text, post information and many other things, especially the issue tracker and the task planner where I can look at the data in different ways and just the ability to share all of this between the different people on the project team that are virtually located throughout my very large company located in many countries.  The one critical thing it is missing is to be able to create dependencies between tasks in the task planner.  This would be a big win if you would add this functionality!  I and many other PMs would appreciate it.  Unfortunately my projects are large and really require this and it is sad because I really love the reporting, calendar view, list view and filtering.  It is all great but it very much needs this one addition.  I really hope you will consider it.

    Thanks,

    Wes

I would love that option as well, however, Microsoft wants you to by MS Project.

I would recommend looking at Smartsheet instead.

You can add it as a tab to a MS Team (has the integration and it can be viewed as cards)

you get the best of both worlds.

if MS Project was not so expensive, I would use it too and planner is great for using it as a RAID log but for larger projects, use Smartsheet instead.

Free for any licensed Office365 organizations, this SharePoint & Teams template makes one source of truth for a project log, kanbans, GANTTs, workload trackers, & update notifications:

By dependency, do you mean a finish to finish dependency?  For example, I have a task that has been linked to another task.  A F-to-F relationship means that for task A to change from in-work to finished, task B (the "sub task") must be finished.  This is typical for most PM style task mgmt.  My background is with Atlassian Jira, which provides this as well as many other dependency options.
