Hi All,

This post is regarding the issues that I have been facing when using "Content Approval" operation.

Below are the details:

When content approval is applied with default settings, it keeps on retrying the approval operation and ultimately fails with error message "BadGateway.(502)" (flow), even though it has approved the item in the list.
When setting of this operation is changed to no retry, it starts throwing "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" error and causes flow to fail. Also in backend it has approved the item, but flow fails.

Anyone that has faced similar issue?

Hi @nitishbijalwan,

Could you please share a screenshot of your flow's configuration?

Do you enable Content Approval option within versioning settings of your SharePoint list and add the "Set content approval status" action within your flow?

The issue is confirmed on my side, my flow's configuration as below:Note: Enable the Content Approval option within my SharePoint list.

The flow fails as below:

But when I enable the Content Approval option within my SharePoint library, the flow works successfully. I have made a test on my side and please take a try with the following workaround:

I afraid that the "Sent content approval status" action is not supported for SharePoint list, if you would like this feature to be added in Microsoft Flow, please submit an idea to Flow Ideas Forum:

I have a similar issue: Content Approval on a list gives me a error (in German):

BadGateway.
"status:", 502
"message:", "Der aktuelle Zustand des Elements ist "Approved", und die folgenden Aktion "Approve" kann nicht implementiert werden." clientRequestId: 9cd5b7a6-e19e-4d99-b379-fcf6ff6c8dc1 serviceRequestId: 84864a9e-50b4-5000-4fac-20bd56ea821c"

It seams to me that the action calls Approved many times for whatever - the list-item is updated with Approved. But the Flow shows an error. I think this action is not build to work on SharePoint lists.

PS: added a commend on Allow MS Flow to update the SharePoint list Content Approval "Approval Status" field. - please vote the the Idea there

Is this still true? If the SharePoint action titled "Set Content Approval Status" is not meant for *SharePoint content approval*, then what is it for?
