Copilot Unable to Generate Answers from PowerPoint Files in SharePoint Knowledge Source

Hi everyone,

I'm encountering an issue where Copilot is unable to generate answers from PowerPoint (.pptx) files stored in a SharePoint folder that I’ve added as a knowledge source.

Here’s what I’ve done so far:

  • Set up manual authentication in the Copilot settings
  • Added the SharePoint folder as a knowledge source (the folder contains PDF, Excel, and PowerPoint files)
  • When I ask Copilot, it can generate answers from PDF files in the SharePoint folder, but it struggles with PowerPoint (.pptx) and Excel files. For PowerPoint, it either doesn’t pull content or provides an AI-generated response instead.

My questions:

  • Has anyone experienced this issue or have any suggestions on what I might be missing?
  • Is there a known limitation with PowerPoint or Excel files in Copilot when used as a knowledge source?

Any troubleshooting tips would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help!

Copilot Unable to Generate Answers from PowerPoint Files in SharePoint Knowledge Source

Copilot generally supports certain file types (like PDF and Word), there may be limited support for file types such as PowerPoint. PowerPoint files often include a mix of images, text, charts, and media elements. Copilot might not handle extracting data from charts or images well.

You could try converting the PowerPoint slides into PDFs if the main content you want the Copilot to reference is text-based. Since PDFs are easier for the AI to process, this could be a workaround.?

    Thanks.
