Content Approval Bad Gateway error

Content approval is giving me a bad gateway error. I am able to set to status to submit but unable to set to approve.

in the set content approval to submitted I use the etag from get file metadata and in the set content status to approve I use the etag from set content approval to submitted. I also tried with the etag from get file metadata in set content status to approve but that didnt work either. I have gotten this to work before not sure what's going on here. Content approval is enabled on the library.

Just to check the obvious. Are the Publishing features turned on in the site where you are trying to update the Approval Status? That's a requirement for the Approval field to be available. If those features aren't enabled this is the error you will get.
