When I click on the gear icon, select Advanced customization, I'm not seeing Open solution explorer.
Any suggestions?

Notice that only when you meet the requirements described in Create and edit entities in Common Data Service for Apps, you can achieve all capabilities by creating or editing entities using the Solution Explorer.

Someone ouside of the forum provided the answer.
Got to Solutions > Default Solution > click the Switch to Classic button (top of screen in the ribbon)
