Base64toString Not Working For Me

Hi all,

I am trying to build a flow that converts a CSV file into an xlsx file using a guide, but my Flows continue to fail at the step after the base64ToString conversion. As you can see below, the conversion is not correctly transforming and I cannot figure out why.

The concerned section of my flow looks like this:

Is there something wrong with my syntax? My base64 looks like below:

Any ideas?

You base64 decodes fine. What happens if you just put in a compose with the file content (without decoding it).

    Hey@m_williamson @Paulie78

You need to be careful using a base64 string in a variable... in some scenarios, Flow will silently re-encode the string when you try to use this in another action.... and you can't see this in the run history, thus onward actions fail as they have received a corrupt base64 string.

What are you doing with the variable onward in your flow?

FYI - The Encodian 'Convert Excel' covers this (Convert CSV to XLSX) - see https://blog.encodian.com/2020/09/convert-excel-and-csv-files-in-power-automate/#2

    Hi both,

When I try chucking the base64 in a Compose, it all seems to work (but I get an error later on to do with the fact it's in an Array and it expects a JSON or XML):

Unable to process template language expressions in action 'Filter_array' inputs at line '1' and column '27756': 'The template language function 'json' expects its parameter to be a string or an XML. The provided value is of type 'Array'. Please see https://aka.ms/logicexpressions#json for usage details.'.

But I need this to be dynamic, how do I fix the problem with reference to this case.

Later in my flow, I am trying to follow the process in the guide: https://sharepains.com/2020/03/09/read-csv-files-from-sharepoint/ which looks something like:

Basically I just want to make an Excel table out of the CSV output, why is this so hard and why doesn't Power Automate support CSV formats?

    Hi @m_williamson

The Power Platform can't cover every use case, that's why there are custom connectors, extensibility points and a partner ecosystem to help plug the gaps / build solutions. There always user voice to post new features requests and the PA forum for feature requests... i.e. if enough people vote for a feature it will be prioritized.

It'd be helpful to understand which action is throwing the error and the data from your run history.

Or try a third party 'Parse CSV' action, Plumsail and Encodian provide a 'Parse CSV' action - check out this video for guidance (from 3:40): https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/Webinars-and-Video-Gallery/Add-CSV-Data-to-a-SharePoint-List-with-Power-Automate/td-p/744269
