Microsoft Copilot Studio pricing

Hi

We plan to build a copilot by using Microsoft Copilot Studio and then deploy it to Microsoft Teams. What are all costs required? Our organization now have Microsoft 365 license.

My understanding is the pricing include

1. Tennent license

2. Per user license (for copilot creation and management in Copilot Studio)

3. Per message volume: $200.00 for 25,000 messages/month.

Regarding the price for Per message volume, how Microsoft count as 1 message, is there any message length limit?

I have the same question (0)

    Hi @qiaogj2046

That's correct. The user license is free but still needs to be purchased and assigned, technically.

You can find out more on it here: Assign user licenses and manage access - Microsoft Copilot Studio | Microsoft Learn

The Microsoft Copilot Studio license is one that lets you use generative AI capabilities, like generative answers.

The Microsoft Copilot Studio for Teams comes with select Microsoft 365 plans, but is very limited (classic version and other restrictions) and doesn't have generative AI capabilities: Get access to Microsoft Copilot Studio - Microsoft Copilot Studio | Microsoft Learn.

The Power Platform licensing guide has been updated to reflect the new definitions about what billed messages are: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2085130

Thanks a lot for your reply.

    Kindly help me understand more

The Microsoft Copilot Studio license you mentioned above, is it the tenant license? What is the pricing for tenant license?

Yes, the capacity is purchased by add-ons of 25,000 messages. So for 4 add-ons = 100,000 messages per month. The overall capacity becomes available at the tenant level, but you need to assign a number of messages to the specific environments where your copilots will run, as documented here: Manage Microsoft Copilot Studio messages and capacity - Microsoft Copilot Studio | Microsoft Learn

    Hi @HenryJammes ,

Oh okay, that means Microsoft only charge as per billed message ($200.00 for 25,000 messages/month)? apart from that there is no other additional changes such as charge for user and tenant license?

One technical question. Could I use different models (such as different models from Hugging Face) from Azure for Copilot? I roughly understand that Copilot Studio can work together with Azure OpenAI Studio in such way Copilot built from Copilot Studio can utilize the different models from Azure Service. So just want to confirm it.

Microsoft charges for the capacity you purchase upfront (so, it's not "pay as you go").

Depending on your use case and usage, you may want to purchase additional Power Platform or Azure services, but for standard usage, the default included capacities for Dataverse storage and Power Platform requests should be enough. We have a few examples in the Licensing & capacity slide of aka.ms/CopilotStudioGuidance.

On your model question, you cannot choose the underlying Azure OpenAI model Generative Answers. It's handled internally as part of our SaaS offering. What you may consider is doing HTTP requests to your own LLM if needed, but that would be outside of the standard Generative Answers feature.

    Hi Henry,

Sorry I am just started to explore Microsoft AI Service and Microsoft Copilot, so may be something confused. My understanding is that we can build our own model or use frontier or open source models from Azure AI Studio. And then use the model to create Copilot in Azure AI Studio. And then deploy this Copilot to Microsoft Teams.

    Hi Guo,

Picking your own Azure OpenAI model is possible when you using Generative answers with Azure OpenAI on your data (preview). However, there's an additional summarization that gets added by Generative Answers (so, with its own model) before the final answer is generated for the user.

    Hi Henry,

thanks a lot for your help. Just last question. What is the model currently Microsoft Copilot Studio is using? GPT3.5-4K, 16K, GPT4 or others?

Today, generative answers are using gpt-35-turbo for the text summarization, but the model gets updated when newer ones outperform them on a number of dimensions and become available. For more complex tasks, like creating a topic with copilot, it's using gpt-4.

Hi, Henry. I'm in a similar situation to OP. I understand the new pricing structure is $200 tenant/month, with user licenses assigned as needed, giving us 25K messages. I have two questions:

    1. Can you point to documentation outlining the add-ons? I haven't found anything laying this out clearly. Is each add-on $200 and gives you 25K messages? ie 100K messages = $800?

    2. Docs say a 'message' is a request invoking a response or action by the bot; if the bot sends a group of 5 separate messages to the user, for example in the greeting, does that count as 1 message? And if it called a flow that would still be the 1 message?

Any help understanding would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks
