How to run the most basic automation.

I want to create an automation that starts when a Teams Team comment is replied to. I assume this should be the simplest example for how MS Power Automate functions, however I cannot get it to show it has run. Looking at the 28-day run history it claims to have never run.

Here's what I've done:

in Power Automate > "When a new channel message is added"  then set the Team and Channel

then do something, anything

When I comment on that particular teams channel, nothing happens. It does not show it has run. No errors, also I don't know if there's a console window to see errors in the first place.

I tried asking once before but got no replies. https://powerusers.microsoft.com/t5/Building-Flows/Power-Automate-not-initiating/m-p/1751139

Your post intrigued me, so I created a simple flow like you did. It appears that the action "When a new channel message is added" is not related to actually posting messages. It seems to be related to messages that get auto-generated when you do things like add a tab or app to a channel. Try adding a tab to the channel where you created the flow, and see if your flow runs then.

The action seems to be related to the checkbox at the bottom of things like this, which you add to a channel:

Although the Microsoft documentation on this trigger makes it sound like posting a message should trigger the flow as well: Microsoft Teams - Connectors | Microsoft Docs
