Power Automate flow bug - all SharePoint Update Item actions updated with Yes/No field

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by 32

Almost every time I go to make a change to our flow, all the SharePoint list Update Item actions are changed in the flow. A Yes/No field named Docs Sent gets added to it automatically, updating the value to No. I don't want this. So any time I make a change to the flow, I have to go through 50 Update Item actions and remove the Yes/No field once again. I have not seen anyone else report this behavior.

This was a problem with the old designer and it has not been fixed in the new designer. For some reason it thinks Yes/No fields must be updated to No all the time.

@mitchellrenner You have 50 Update Item actions in a single flow? Seems like a awful lot of Update Item actions—maybe there's a way your flow could be streamlined. If you share a screenshot of your flow I might be able to make recommendations (if you're interested.

Did you create this flow originally in the Classic Designer? The new designer is very buggy and even if you've switched over to the new designer to make any edits to it—it might cause issues in your flow. I've personally never had this happen before in my own flows. You could try to recreate the flow. Create a brand new flow—switch to the Classic Designer before making any changes to your flow. Ensure you are only editing in the Classic Designer.

    Hope this helps!

It happened in the old designer. It happened in flows converted from old to new. And it is happening in flows created in the new designer. Maybe I'll try recreating the SharePoint field. In this type of programming environment with visual objects you have no way of knowing how to correct it except by random trial and error.

@mitchellrenner Some flows will open in the new designer by default (depending on the flow). However, it doesn't mean you need to use the New Designer to edit. You can toggle off the New Designer.

You could also try using a Compose action to store the value for the Yes/No column and use the dynamic content in your Update Item action.

I don't want the Yes/No field in the Update Item actions. It keeps adding it to all of them. That is the issue.

@mitchellrenner Could you change the default value in the column of your SP List? By default the default value is set to Yes.

This value will be the default value selected in the Update Item action.

If you want the checkbox to be unchecked you need to pass a No value.

    Hope this helps.

Thank you but I do not want the Update Item actions to do anything with the Docs Sent field. I don't want that field in my Update Item actions, I don't want it in anything in my flow, and I want the field left as it is. There should be no reason why when I open a flow to edit it, the editor adds this Doc Sent Yes/No field to all my Update Item actions. It is a glitch.

@mitchellrenner Ah I see. Have you tried deleting the Update Item action and adding it back in using the Classic Designer?

If it's still causing you issues—I'd suggest "Updating" the Yes/No column with its own value.

This way it won't change what was there but ensure the original value is kept intact.

    Hope this helps!

I am also having this problem, many of my flows have broken in the last few days with no explanation, entire columns of data have been lost due to some automated checks. when I looked it appeared a yes/no column had been added to just one "Update item" action changing on its own.

@mitchellrenner No, I'm not an AI bot.
