building a flow aproval flow that updates a column without creating a infinite trigger

I've built a flow that activates "When a file is created or modified (properties only)" and then runs an approval process.  Once approved, it sets the content and its been working fine.  However, I now have a requirement from the users to update a couple of columns with history.  My dilemma is that I can insert "Update file properties" to update the relevent fields before the  "Set content approval status" or after.  If i insert it after the document will no longer be approved because its been changed and will revert back to pending.  If i insert "Update file properties" before, it trigger another approval.  How do i get the information updated without triggering another approval process or changing the approval status to pending?
