Is there a way to implement role-based data access in Copilot Studio similar to Power BI RLS?

I want Copilot Studio to return data only for the roles or permissions assigned to the user, instead of exposing all data.

Hi

It works differently than Power BI RLS. Copilot Studio itself does not have built-in role-based or row-level security. Security is enforced by the data source you connect to.

You have to require users to sign in (Entra ID), and ensure your actions/connectors run as the signed-in user (not a shared/service account).

Then
Then Dataverse will respect its security roles/record access. And SharePoint / Microsoft Graph will respect SharePoint permissions.

If you upload a file directly into Copilot Studio as Knowledge then user-based security does NOT work.

We have created an agent for salespersons where each salesperson should only be able to view the available units assigned to them. They should also be able to book only the units assigned to them and should not be able to see units sold by other agents.

Also, please note that our knowledge source is Azure SQL, and we are not uploading any files directly into the knowledge base.
