I currently have a flow set up for when an item is modified. Although my flow successes the first time it is triggered. It triggers for a second time and fails. How can I fix this issue?

Its probably the Update Item actions in the flow after the approval that are causing it to trigger a second time.  You need to add a trigger condition that keeps the trigger from firing when the flow is the one making the modification. The easiest way to do that is to create the flow using an account that never makes direct changes to the SharePoint list.  Then you can add a trigger condition that says not to trigger if the modification account is that account.  There are other trigger conditions that you can also do to prevent this.  This article explains some of the different approaches.

    Hi,

Please make sure when posting for, that you share all the details necessary. Just saying it fails, how do I fix it, isn't an good way to start out and it just leads to more back and forth :-). Help us help you faster in the future. thanks!!

    Questions:

    1) You are doing updates etc in your Flow, are they to the same table as the Trigger is set too?

    2) What does "it fails" mean, please always share the full details of your issue
    -Flow (good you got that)
-Flow Run (add a flow run with all inputs and outputs so we can see whats happening)
-Make sure to share the actual full error (not a snippet of it but all the words etc)

    3. Share any details about the flow itself, what you are doing, why you are doing it, help us understand the flow in terms of business need, not just technical implementation.

Cheers and look forward to helping you.

This flow  was only ran once and it succeeded the first time. Because the date column was changed. The flow was triggered three additional times and it was only modified once.

Flow outputs for all the failed flow: Unable to process template language expressions for action 'Condition_2' at line '0' and column '0': 'The template language function 'contains' expects its first argument 'collection' to be a dictionary (object), an array or a string. The provided value is of type 'Null'.'.

Condition 2 is based off the outcome of the approval. The approval step is in condition one and based off the date column being changed. The other flows are failing because there is no outcome from the approval process. In the failed flow condition one is false.

I am trying to understand why the flow is triggering more than once. I'm sorry for not proving enough information. Thanks for responding.
