When a file is modified on one drive for business trigger duplication or miss issue

I have fairly basic flow / setup. there are 10 files in a folder on onedrive for business that I refresh via a VBA at 7am. This may be the hard way 🙂 But I have 10 triggers setup to monitor that folder with a condition to grab content and send an email based on specific filename.xlsx.

What is often happening is the email will trigger for 7 out of 10, and sometimes duplicates 2 or 3 of the seven. When I review the 3 that don't trigger, it looks as if the Trigger never caught the modification. I can see 10

here is one of the flows with the condition to grab content and email only if its a specific file that has been modified (so it bounces 9 out of 10 to no)

Screenshot showing 10 files were modified 7 hours ago (feb13 is a folder not a file)

When i review the run history and look at each run success, the filename for this trigger never comes across. So each of these is bounced as a no. Also, it shows why i receive duplicate emails as some of the files are ran twice even though they were only modified one time.

To me, it appears as if the modified one drive for business is getting hung up, any help with this or a work around / better way to map this out I would appreciate.

@DoubleD Have you considered using a Recurrence trigger to run after 7am? This way you aren't relying on the When a file is modified trigger.

Great Suggestion and that is probably the route I will head if I can't find a solution. The reason for using this trigger is the files are feed by multiple DB's and I have to bring out the defibrillators and shock them back to life at times to get the data out of them 🙂 . they finish running at 6-6:25 AM and then I validate and send the process on its way.

This trigger gives me an send Asap, the other option would have me sending the files at 8am so I have plenty of time to troubleshoot before the send deadline. Doable, Id just prefer these triggers to work :). Thank you for the suggestion.

@DoubleD You could also consider adding a delay to your flow if you'd like to stick with your original trigger. In addition to that, you can add a Trigger Condition to only run on Files not folders.

    Hope this helps!

Good thinking, where would the delay be useful? from what I am deducing, the trigger itself is having trouble looking at 10 files, determining modified or not accurately and then running the flow accordingly. Can I put a delay in the trigger so it takes longer looking at the folder?

I am looking into your second suggestion as I haven't played with that yet. Thank you.

@DoubleD I guess it might not work in this case. That's the reason I don't personally like using the when a file is modified or item is modified trigger. Cause it can trigger multiple times for a file based on when a file is accessed through the browser app it'll trigger a modification almost immediately. It's no different when you are editing a SP item. As soon as a field is edited, it will adjust the modified date/time to that change. Even if you aren't finished with your edits.

You could possibly add a delay right before you get the contents—however this wouldn't prevent the flow from triggering itself again.

I will simplify my flow and try this. I'll accept the solution as soon as it runs a few times 🙂 thank you.

It still duplicated. I found that the missing was due to selecting Properties Only when I wanted it triggered off additions and then found they were missing (correctly) due to no new data being updated. I could not resolve the duplications, it must be a onedrive synch type issue, larger files being flagged twice while synch? I dont know. I moved on to using PowerApps and creating a button I could push from my phone to trigger the event after verifying files were updated. Thanks all for the help, it kept my creativity flowing.

@DoubleD Did you know Power Automate has an app? All your manually triggered flows will display there—you don't need to create a Power App to trigger the flow.

    Hope this helps!
