Create File: .msg file won’t open

Im trying to create .msg files of recently sent Outlook emails using Onedrive’s Create File, however the resulting .msg file it creates won’t allow me to open it. I’ve seen other forums that just say to use .eml instead of .msg, but I need the saved email to be in .msg format specifically. The .eml file format works for me but I have no way of converting mass amounts of .eml files to .msg files efficiently. Is there a way I can create a .msg file of an exported outlook email that actually opens?

    Hi @rcarone ,

Could you please show me the flow?

You can also try this first.

If you are using new designer, I recommend you switch to classic designer because file created in new designer can't be opened sometimes.

This is the flow I’m using, it uses (Send an email V2), I then use a delay that waits for the email to send, I then use (Get emails V3) to locate the newly sent email in my “Sent Items” in outlook. (Export email V2) grabs the message ID of the email then I have (Create File) create a .msg of the outlook email and save it to a one drive folder.

The problem is the .msg file won’t open, from what I’ve been able to deduce (I think) is that either in the extracting or create file process of this flow, some small amount of metadata is lost from the original email which doesn’t allow me to open it. Is there a way to fix this? Or an alternative way to get these newly sent emails saved as .msg. If I use .eml it will work but I eventually need them in .msg format.

    Hi @rcarone ,

The error looks like is about permission. If the User email dynamic content is others email, have you tried save one of email in your mailbox as msg file and try to open it? I'm not familiar with the Outlook. But if msg file of email in your mailbox can be opened, I'm afraid the problem may be related with permission of Outlook.

Hope others post brilliant ideas here.

    Best regards,

    Rimmon
