Adding email distribution lists to as "Run-only" users in a Power Automate cloud flow

Hi team,

I was wondering if it were possible to add an email distribution list as a group of "run-only" users in a Power Automate cloud flow? I'm trying to add the distribution list (DL) right now but they don't show up on my "organization's directory" even though I'm capable of searching for the DL in Teams or Outlook. Do I need to add these DL's in another list somewhere in order to list them on Power Automate? If not, what are my other options in terms of adding groups as "run-only" users? I've added a screenshot below to show the error I'm experiencing when adding a DL to my cloud flow.

Thanks in advance

You cannot adds DLs to Run Only Users group. It needs to be an individual or Office 365 Group

    Hi Sudeep,

Could you clarify how a Office 365 Group is different from a distribution list? Because when I was looking it up earlier, the documentation on how to create an office 365 group in Outlook says that it was formerly called a "distribution list" so I'm not sure how it's different from a "group"? Also, "distribution list" is still the language being used in Outlook. If you could point me in the right direction as to what these differences are and how to add a group of users to a Power Automate cloud flow, that would be much appreciated.

    Thank you.

    HI @vanislekahuna ,

Distribution list is just a collection of email addresses. It has no ability to check if the email address belongs to a valid Microsoft Entra account.

Office 365 groups on the other hand is a collection of People objects in Microsoft Entra. So when you are dealing with permissions or membership, you should use Office 365 groups.
