Hi All,

It is in power automate desktop(PAD).  I have a common workflow to get employee information from a web site(some times, it has some changes). It is a situation to use it in multiple project the same workflow like sub workflow.

  • Is it having any to use the sub workflow in multiple project ?
  • After the deployment, If I do any changes the sub workflow. Have any possibility to affect all the production project(Which is running already).

Even if you try to use some flow as a reusable component, it won't be considered a sub flow. You can call them as another run flow action only.

This way, it remains in one place and communicates with multiple desktop flows, functioning as a reusable component. In the future, if you modify them, it will affect other flows as well, but it won't impact any production bot unless you make changes in dev environment and move the recent updates into production environment.

If you don't want to take any risks, you can copy and paste the same reusable code into your all desktop flow as sub flow. This way, it won't affect other flows.

To sum up, if your goal is to maintain consistency and ease of updates, using the "Run Flow" action to call a centralized workflow is the best approach. If you need to avoid any risk of impacting production projects, consider copying the workflow as needed, but be prepared for increased maintenance efforts.

    Thank you @Deenuji ,

    In Power Automate desktop,

    • Do we have any provision to make the sub workflow as re-usable component (Get the information from browser) to use in multiple project.
    • As you said to use the centralized workflow, It is only inside the project or can use it to multiple project ?

    Finally :

The sub workflow will use only inside the project. It will not use it to multiple project. Am I right ?

    Thank you

No, we can still use the "Run flow" action to execute our reusable flow. This means that you cannot trigger a sub-flow directly from a different flow.

As you said to use the centralized workflow, It is only inside the project or can use it to multiple project ?

The decision depends on your sub-flow's requirements and characteristics. For example, if you need to utilize an Azure API across multiple projects, creating a custom action might be beneficial. This way, you can simply pass parameters to the custom action and retrieve the results as needed.

The sub workflow will use only inside the project. It will not use it to multiple project. Am I right ?

    Yes your understanding is correct.
