I was wondering if anyone was using the "tool tips" feature. On a PC with a mouse, when you hover over a field, the tool tip will appear. How do you get the tool tip to appear when using a mobile device without a mouse cursor?
Hallo Karl,
on my Surface Pro I point with the pen at the item (in this case a galery item) and touch it with the pen. The same works with if you touch with a finger.
RegardsMichael
Karl,
In general this is only possible if the device used has the ability to translate certain touch gestures to "hover" events. The stylus used also plays a role here. A simple stylus (or a finger) doesn't necessarily have the resolution to produce anything other than "touched" or "not touched" -- and that extra resolution is exactly what would be needed to show tooltips.
I strongly believe out of the tooltips should be customizable (here is an idea that has been posted for this). That being said, here is a simple control that I created for tooltips which allows all customizations that are possible with text input controls. You can even control the time for which it shows up and whether to hide when a user clicks anywhere outside the control for which the tooltip exists.
One more advantage is that out of the box tooltips only work when a user hovers the control which means they don't work on Mobile or any touch devices. These custom tooltips work on touch devices as well.
Take a look at this sample app I have posted here on the community:

Let me know what you guys think. Feel free to give suggestions and feedback.
