Location detection in PowerApps

Dear All,

Need your guidance to help me. This is my first time develop an app with location detection.

The scenario is likely the same as facebook/instagram post, where user click something like "Add location" or "Check in" (I'm planning to use Text Input control), the app will display a list of location name nearby and user can choose from the list or enter keyword from the search box and choose from there. Once they choose, the location name will be stored in the text input (form).

I am thinking whether this is possible or not in PowerApps. Appreciate your help and ideas.

Thanks in advance!

    Hi @Anonymous

To my knowledge, there is (at present) not yet an easy way to do this in Power Apps.

However, the Power Apps team gave an example blog post a while back that showed how you could do similar with an API and Image Control, and there is also a PCF component that you could use for similar.

I think both of these solutions will require a premium license for everyone using the App, so that's one of the downsides.

    Cheers,

    Sancho

    HI @Anonymous ,

Have you tried the "Address Input control (Preview)" in your canvas app?

Regarding the needs that you mentioned, I think the "Address Input control (Preview)" could achieve your needs. Please check and see if the following article could achieve your needs:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/canvas-apps/geospatial-component-input-address

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/canvas-apps/geospatial-overview

In order to use the "Address Input control (Preview)", you need to own Premium license for your sign in account. Please try above solution, check if the issue is solved.

If you could not use the "Address Input control (Preview)" in your canvas app, I afraid that there is no direct way to achieve your needs in PowerApps currently. As an alternative solution, I think the combination of PowerApps and Power Automate based on Bing Map Autosuggest REST API could achieve your needs.

Please check and see if my solution in following thread could help in your scenario:
