Creating a contact in Dynamics from an excel table using PowerAutomate

I am trying to create a flow that will run when an excel spreadsheet is updated with a new row of data.

The excel sheet is populated with contact info and a specific interest, based off clients filling a form out on my website.  I want to either create a task in dynamics if they already exist as a client.  But if they do not exist, create a contact and then create a task.

I do not want to have multiple contacts of the same person.  My current attempt of doing this creates all the contacts on the spreadsheet each time, not just the new one.

Here is the process I am trying to achieve.

Can anyone help me with the Dataverse actions I need to use to make this happen?

I am not versed in JSON.  So I am trying to make this happen with the flow builder.  I am stuck at what option to choose so I can check against my dynamics 365 contacts.

Hi there.  So, you'll probably want to use the "List Rows" action with some kind of filter looking for the contact's email address, right? (Or some other identifying field).

If nothing is found, then that step will error out, which we can use to our advantage using "Configure Run After".  This lets us tell the following step ("Create Contact") to only run if your search errors out.

After all that, you can have a step to create the task, since by then (no matter what) the contact will exist.

Here is a blog article I did which is doing pretty much the exact thing, but using MailChimp instead of Dynamics...the methodology will be the same:  Using "Run After" as a Condition in Power Automate / Flow

Also, if there's a chance to shift from Excel to a SharePoint list, you'll have more flexibility in your triggers and actions.

Take a look at that, then let keep us posted.  Good luck!

    Hi Ed,

Thank you for your help.  I think I understand what your blog is looking for me to do.

However, how do I set up the query of my software downloads table in excel against my dynamics 365 list of contacts?

I have entered an action for List Rows.

Set table name to Contacts field in Dynamics

but I do not know what to do from there.  Is there a good resource guide to refer to?

I have my flow set up like this currently.

But when I add a condition, all I get is error messages. (I know it is user error) I just don't know how to build the condition to read from the checking emails against my contacts. Also, how do I set up the flow to only read the newest additions to my excel spreadsheet?
