Barcodes, CDS and Forms

Hello Champions,
I am new here and need Your help.
I am making an Inventory app, model-driven + canvas, based on CDS. On a model-driven part I had already made a Main forms for entering and editing of Articles and Locations data. Now, my problems start on a canvas side. I have already made a screens with Edit Forms for Inventory ( Date, Name, Commission), which in my opinion should act as some kind of Header data in a created Form. Next step is scanning of Location Barcode and presenting of Location Name in a separate field. After that, I should have a list of articles names and quantities on that location - but how ? What should I use in order to get that data - Data Table or Gallery or something else ? Next step is barcode scanning of articles, default quantity is 1, but it should be able to be changed/updated.  Scanning bar codes one by one, on the end of Inventory those scanned barcodes and related  articles, article names and user should be saved into CDS. But how ? I am confused between Collections and Variables on canvas side and save data on model driven side. I should save all the data ( Inventory data and related articles and quantities ), but how ? Should I create an another Main Form with Heather data ( Inventory data)  with Subgrid ( scanned articles, names and quantities ) in a model-driven part ? If yes - which Subgrid - read only or editable ?  Please, be so kind and try to help this newcomer 🙂 - one day I suppose to be able to help guys like me, those who works hard in order to make good apps for everyone. Many thanks , Edin

Subgrid is usually the hint that your Table regarding the record of which the form is having such Subgrid present is on the One (1) side of a One-To-Many (1:N) relationship, with the records listed inside the subgrid (if any - but even if there are not any) being on the Many (N) side of the relationship. Making a Subgrid is only done on the Model Driven App, and it will be independent of what you do in the Canvas App. Also, whether the Subgrid is actually there or not, the relationship that is behind it would still be there anyway.

Based on the above, you could decide. What in your Model Driven App would you like One (1) record to show Many (N) things? For this, you make a 1:N relationship in Dataverse. Then you can make the Subgrid on a form on the One (1) side. This is a pretty generic advice on purpose actually, we would like to leave it up to you for now to see if you could apply this in your specific scenario.

For the Canvas App, while there is more than one valid approach, we recommend you start by bringing the records in specifying the Data Source in the Items property of one or more Galleries as that is usually the simplest way. You are also free to attempt any of the other approaches you had in mind as well.
