Relating records using a model-driven app

I have 2 tables in Dataverse with a many to many relationship.

 

My model-driven app has a form from to create a new record in one of the tables, that has a subgrid to display all the existing records in the other table

 

How do I relate the new record I am creating in the form to one or more existing records in the other table?

    I think I've answered my own question. Can do this if 'show related records' is checked on the Subgrid, but I was hoping that I could display all records on the subgrid and directly select to relate them, but I don't think that is possible
