I was in the new “Automation Center” that Microsoft has in preview for the Power Platform to check for any failed flows. Failed flows show up here before we get an e-mail notification, which can take a week to be delivered.
I noticed that that one workflow, Workflow URL, was showing in the failed list, but the error was listed as a dash. This workflow is a child flow and holds the CSS and a link back to the parent workflow, which we use in most e-mails sent by a parent flow. This makes it easy to find flow if a user has questions or the process owner needs changes and is called in almost all other flows.
I checked the individual run information on the Workflow URL flow and it reported 0 failures in the past month. I looked at the analytics tab for this one workflow, and it reported no issues, too. My guess is that this is showing in the failed runs because the parent run failed.
This is now the interesting part, I then checked the usage tab, and in the past month the flow has run 15,597 times.
In the Power Platform Admin Center, it reports 16,951 total runs:
The Automation Center analytics shows 8,834 runs for the past month:
This doesn’t make sense. So, I went back to the automation center and checked the run history. It shows the Workflow URL indented below another workflow (see image below). This make sense since the Workflow URL is only called from a parent workflow. Has Microsoft updated the run total reporting in the Admin Center to count the child flow run as part of the parent run count? This is good since the workflow URL runs so many times, it will not skew the real total run history.
But there is still one mystery, why does the total runs in the Automation Center not match the total runs in the Admin Center? It almost 50% less than the admin center total.
