Hello,

I'm trying to setup a a vm to run a Power Automate Desktop Flow (attended). I want to trigger the desktop flow by the "Run a flow built with Power Automate desktop"-action from a cloud flow.

The Power Automate Desktop Flow works fine on the machine.

The setup of clloud flow and dekstop flow is pretty simple. The flow is an instant flow that directy executes the "Run a flow built with Power Automate desktop"-action. Configuring the action works fine. I can create a connection to the machine and can select the desktop flow.

The problem:

When the flow is started the action just keeps on running.

I've tried it in diffrent environments and also in I tried executing Power Automate Desktop on my pc. Always the same result.

If I put in incorrect credentials or remove the machine from the environment while executing the flow, I'll get en error message.

Right now the setup up user has no "Per user plan with attended RPA". Could that be the issue?

Update: Executing it on my local pc did work after 1 hour of run time. Are those normal executing times?

Update2: It also worked on my vm after 1 hour 30 min.

Thanks and best regards,

Jan

    Hi.

    Run time all depends on what kind of actions you have in your flow. Might be worth sharing a little about what it does.

    It could be you have either a "infinite loop" or maybe a "Wait for XXX" action that doesn't have a Timeout that hangs the flow for a long time.

    If your flow is dependent on Images or OCR and such in general, you will also want to edit the file UIFlowService.exe.config found in your Power Automate Desktop install folder (on the target machine) and change:

    "<add key="Microsoft.Flow.RPA.UIFlowService.ScreenDefaultResolutionEnabled" value="false" />"

    to

    "<add key="Microsoft.Flow.RPA.UIFlowService.ScreenDefaultResolutionEnabled" value="true" />"

    Then reboot and the setting takes place. Needs to be set each time a new update to PAD is released. I found that certain UI Elements and Pictures would not display properly without this setting.

    @Gematria

    Thank you for your reply. After some more testing the executing time seems to be normal (under a minute).

    The Power Autoamte Desktop Flows only had two actions:
    PowerShell Script: Write-Output "Hello"

    Message Dialog: Message: {Powershell Output}

    I'll guess the "Message Dialog"-Action was the issue. The message dialog box was opened "behind" the Power Automate Desktop window. Since I didn't see the window I didn't close it and the PAD Flow did not finish. So it's an mistake on my part.

    Thank you for your input!

    Best regards
    Jan
