Computer Use with "Bring your own machine"

Hi,
I am trying to use the Computer Use feature in Copilot Studio, specifically the “Bring Your Own Machine” option.
I have already installed Power Automate and the machine runtime on my PC, and the machine is visible in the Power Automate machine list. However, when I go to configure the Computer Use tool in Copilot Studio, the machine does not appear as an available option.
Does anyone know why this might be happening or how to make the machine show up in the configuration?
Thanks in advance.

Daniel

    Hi there,
This behavior is expected in most cases and is usually caused by how “Bring Your Own Machine” (BYOM) is scoped and registered in Power Automate vs Copilot Studio.

Even if your machine is visible in the Power Automate Machines list, it will not automatically appear in Copilot Studio unless a few key conditions are met.

Here are the most common causes and how to fix them:

    1. Machine is not part of a Machine Group
Copilot Studio does not list individual machines. It surfaces only machines that are part of a Machine Group.

    Fix:
    - Go to Power Automate → Machines
    - Create a Machine Group
    - Add your machine to that group

    2. Environment mismatch
Machines are environment-specific. If your machine is created in a different environment than your Copilot Studio agent, it will not be visible.

    Fix:
    - Verify that:
      - The machine (or machine group)
      - The Copilot Studio agent
are in the same Power Platform environment

    3. Missing permissions
Even if the machine exists, you must have the correct permissions on the machine group.

    Fix:
    - Ensure you are:
      - Owner or User of the machine group
      - With proper access to use desktop flows

    4. Machine not properly registered or offline
    The machine must:
    - Have Power Automate Machine Runtime running
    - Be online and connected

    Fix:
    - Open the machine runtime and verify it is connected
    - Check status in Power Automate → Machines

    5. BYOM support limitations
In Copilot Studio, the “Bring Your Own Machine” option is still evolving. In some cases:
    - Only specific configurations (like machine groups) are supported
    - Standalone machines are not selectable

    What your screenshot shows:
    - The dropdown correctly exposes "Bring-your-own machine"
    - But no machine is listed because nothing eligible (i.e., no valid machine group in the same environment) is available

    Hope this helps!
    Paolo

    Hi Paolo,

I added the machine into a group and keep everything in the same environment, but I still can not see it from the list.

I am not sure if this is a bug, my config issue or our company IT admin settings.

    Thanks
    Daniel

I faced the same issue today and what helped me was updating the machine settings in Power Automate.

You need to Enable Computer Use, here is documentation
    1. Sign in to Power Automate
    2. Go to Machines.
    3. Select the machine you registered.
    4. On the machine detail page, select Settings.
    5. Turn on Enable for computer use.
    6. Select Save.
Then you can refresh the list of machines in CUA settings, you should be able to see your machine there.

Please let me know if it works!

    Hi Andriana,

    Thank you for your reply.

I checked my settings and noticed that the "Enable for computer use" option is not available on my end. I’m not sure whether this is controlled by our IT administrator or if the feature has not yet been enabled in Canada.

Thanks for your help on this.

    Hey@DD-14051900-0,
I just checked, and I have this setting only in my US-based environment, the Canada-based one is missing it, so there is a high chance it's a root cause of the issue.
It has been only two weeks since CUA general availability, maybe we just need to wait some time.
