How to limit user to submit only 1 single entry from forms into a sharepoint list

Hi all,

I have a form so users can vote on a particular thing, I want to link this to a sharepoint list and make users type in their name to stop multiple entries for the same person and use power automate to stop this / limit entries to 1.

Any ideas if this is possible?

    Hi @AB21

    I think you can try this approach if you want to try using power automate

    1. Trigger a flow when form is submitted

    2. Then filter items in list based on user details with respect to user for which form is submitted

    3. If there are multiple items created for one user, delete that recent item created using  Delete Item  action

    This is how u can give a try 🙂

    Mark it as solution if it helps you 🙂

    You can do this in Forms - no Flow required.  Just set the Form properties so that only 1 entry is allowed per user.  You can remove your column where the name is entered.  Forms provides the email of the person who submitted.

    Hi @ScottShearer The email is not used as the users who fill this form out are not members of the org

    @AB21

    OK - I made an assumption...

    Another approach might be to make the column where you have the persons name a unique column in the SharePoint list.

    If you try to enter the same name twice, the create item will fail.

    Use the run after settings to handle the error.

    Do you have any screenshots on what this would look like please?

    I would need the vote (item) added into the sharpeointa list to be the first and only entry by the same user

    @AB21

    check this

    Here I have a form with one field which is Name , which we can assume to be the username/ email of person who is entering form , so it should be unique

    in the get items , I am using a filter query Name eq 'Name' , here i am trying to see whether there are items having Name value being created

    function/expression used:

    length(outputs('Get_items')?['body/value'])

    this condition checks whether there are any items created for that user, if it is zero, it means no items are created for the user.
