Co-Pilot programming change: does this reflect Microsoft human bias during this election period?

Posted on by 4
Hey there! Has anyone else experienced the change in programming for CoPilot that now denies the ability to answer the same question it used to answer in full detail? I use CoPilot to help me fact check when I write, especially if it deals with American political figures and legislation in order to avoid spreading any misinformation. To me, that is the most powerful us of A.I. Humans tend to alter our own reality based on our fears and biases and we spread so much harm by lying and misleading others. Building a tool to help us bring facts that challenge human biases is one of the most valuable assists to human communication, so I was so excited to use Bing's A.I. tool when I do my internet searches. Yesterday, when I could not remember the actual number of felony charges that Donald Trump has so far while I was replying to a post, I once again used CoPilot to get that number correct. Usually when I ask that question to CoPilot, it immediately retrieves not only the correct number (34), it lists sources and summaries so I can found out what those felonies were and when they were charged. I don't have to retain that information since CoPilot continues to improve it's capacity...until yesterday, September 25, 2024. This time, CoPilot generates a confusing dead-end reply: "I wish we could talk about elections, but it’s a complex topic that goes beyond my training. Sorry!" For some reason, CoPilot has been reprogrammed to no longer retrieve that simple question that does not involve any question about elections. I double-checked to see if other companies like Apple and Google were also generating the same response for their A.I. products, and thank goodness they were not. Siri and Google search retrieved the information ASAP using the exact same question the way CoPilot used to. Siri was even very pleasant in voice stating it was happy to give me that information!  It is too easy for my own human fears to assume that corporate entities like Microsoft are involved in global control of information around this election cycle by refusing to generate facts while engendering a false narrative that facts around a court decision of a public figure are an ask about elections. This brings fear to me. I fear, like so many other Americans, that multi-Billion dollar companies like Microsoft are led by people who are able and willing to manipulate our American elections based on their own selfish human biases in a compulsive drive to control others and control profit margins. Facts help me not allow my own fears to dictate my use of CoPilot and Microsoft products. Does anyone have facts concerning this change in programming?
