i must be doing something wrong because this is ridiculous. i am using Populate Word Template. i keep getting errors, created an XML file, mapped the fields. AI has me going in circles. is there something diff i should be using or is there a way to see and edit back end XML and place holders. spent hours today got nothing completed.

Have you built your template using the Developer tab in Microsoft Word?

Wherever you need dynamic values, you have to insert content controls from the Developer tab. Also, make sure you’re not using Rich Text controls, as it's not supported in the Populate Word Template action.

Once your template is ready and select this template in Populate Word Template action it will appear all the dynamic contents input fields.
