Retrieve Dataverse table columns and data and the relationships (LookUps)

Hi,

Due to the user requirement I have deleted the specific columns in specific tables and it's their dependencies in the dataverse and in the front end(Canvas app), I fixed the error everything is done, I didn't take any backup at all. we thought everything is working fine but we got to know that there is an issue because of that deletion we are not aware of this, if we are aware definitely in specific table we couldn't delete. Now because of that deletion the data retrieval is not happening because no data was there and now we are getting the data in the dataverse as blank anyway it is updating through the flow, Is there anyway to find or get the data or to see what type of columns we have deleted like exact columns and their relationships , anyone if you have any idea, It will be helpful.

Hi @ASHOK_K,

Unfortunately, Dataverse does not keep backups as such, Have you exported the previous data to a Solution ? If so you can restore that into another environment as see what was there. Also do you have previous versions of your app that you can resore with another name and point at the same tables. If so, the errors may give you a clue as to what fields are missing.

In the addition of above, If this is a production environment and the data is business-critical, open a Microsoft Support ticket immediately.

Microsoft may be able to restore the environment to a point-in-time backup (subject to your environment type and retention policy).

This is the only realistic option for recovering deleted data if no other backups exist.

Hi @ASHOK_K,

If you can remember, if Audit was enabled at the environment level for metadata changes, there is a chance you might find logs about schema changes, I believe including column deletions. This assumes that auditing for metadata changes was enabled/turned on before column deletion.

How to check environment level: Power Platform Admin Center:

If auditing was enabled - you can access logs.

Hi @ASHOK_K,

All three suggestions above are correct. One more option to check that may help identify what was deleted:

Dataverse has environment-level database backups that Microsoft manages automatically. For Production environments, Microsoft retains backups for up to 28 days (7 days for non-production). If this happened recently, an admin can go to PPAC > Environments > your environment > Backups and restore to a point before the deletion in a new environment. Then compare the column structure between the restored environment and your current one to see exactly what was deleted.

This is the fastest way to both identify the deleted columns AND recover the data without opening a support ticket first.

Also check: in PPAC > your environment > History. This shows recent admin operations on the environment which may include schema changes.

For identifying deleted columns from the app side: if you have Power Apps version history (File > Version history in the editor), open an older app version that still referenced those columns. The formulas will show the column names even if the column is gone from Dataverse.
