Block agents in MS Teams only

Hi,

is it possible to block agents in MS Teams only? We want users to only use the M365 Copilot UI to acess agents, but we do not want them to install agents in MS Teams.

Hi @leo85,

I do not think that is possible. They are treated as one channel in a Data Loss Prevention policy so I do not see any way to seperate them.

I had a look in the Teams admin Center to see if there where some clever configuration to be done there but could not find any.
Someone else will have to jump in if they have some way to prevent an agent to be used in Teams.

Yes, your requirement is achievable, and the cleanest approach is channel-specific governance: allow the agent at the Microsoft 365 Copilot level while restricting its Teams app availability through Teams administration.

To prevent end users from using the agent in Teams, follow these steps:

Go to the Teams admin portal, then navigate to Teams apps > Manage apps > select your app > Users and groups > Availability > Edit availability > choose No one.

agents only show up in Teams Admin Center when they are published with the whole organization.

Will this also block users possbility to install it in teams via a link?

When I block it this way, will it still be working in M365 Copilot?

Hi @leo85,

Blocking in Teams Admin Center also blocks installation via direct link. Users can only install agents in Teams if Power Platform apps are allowed in your tenant, so blocking the app removes all Teams installation paths including links.

On whether it still works in M365 Copilot: unfortunately no. As of 2026, app availability policies in Teams Admin Center and Microsoft 365 Admin Center are unified. Changes in one are automatically synced to the other, so blocking in Teams also blocks it in M365 Copilot.

There's currently no supported way to allow the agent in M365 Copilot while blocking it specifically in Teams. The availability controls don't offer that level of channel-specific granularity.

FYI in the new GitHub Copilot harness you can now choose to publish only to M365 Copilot only when first publishing an agent. Not sure when this showed up but just found this today when publishing a new agent.
