PowerApps New licensing

Hi

i'm trying to understand the  new licensing for power app based on  (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/powerapps-flow-licensing-faq)

My questions:

1) So will the powerapps/flow part of th Office 365 subscription will contiune (we have Eduction subscription ) with O365 Data only ? we are assiging [Powerapps for Office 365] for users

2) if th developer (app creator) using a premium conector assigned PowerApp Per User License (40$/per user/m), does the app user requires a stand alone license ? or can users have the same PowerApps License part of Office 365 subscription assiging the [Powerapps for Office 365] and the app will work ?

You do at least have a bit of time before the current design will stop working or need additional licensing.  Hopefully you can refactor the app within the next couple of months.

@Pstork1  Thank you for your response. That unfortunately confirms my suspicions. It would have been nice if Microsoft would have told me that when I installed the gateway and created the flows. Now I guess I’m going to have to complete rebuild the backend of a complicated powerapp used by my entire organization though alternate methods. Can’t be helped though. At any rate, thank you again for the clarification! I've seen you on many other posts, thank you for taking the time to help others.

The app you describe should have required at least a P1 license even prior to October 1.  The on-permises gateway and HTTP calls to services other than SharePoint has been a premium feature since February.  Asssuming you built the app before the end of 2018 you are probably running on an extension to the licensing that was available at that time.  That extension will expire on Dec 31, 2019 the last I heard.

So, use of the SQL connector is grandfathered until 2024.  But the on-premises gateway and API calls will be premium for you starting in January of 2020.  I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

    Hi All,

I have a question related to this as well. My problem is that I have an app and flow created prior to to October 1st that uses Microsoft Flow to retrieve and update data in both an on-premise sql server (Data Gateway) and a ticketing application via API calls. From what I understand both of these feature are now becoming premium and our organization is using the basic office 365 version of both powerapps and flow. Upgrading to 10 dollars a user per month is not even an option for consideration as we are a non-profit with about 500 users.

My question is, will my PowerApp and Flow be grandfathered in and functional until October 1, 2024? or am I misunderstanding mixing up these licencing changes?

    Thanks!

    1) The PowerApps/Flow licensing will continue for Office licenses.  They will provide access to any Standard connector just like they did in the past.  The primary difference is that SQL and Azure connectors are now premium going forward.

    2) Apps that use premium connectors will require all users of the App to have a premium license, unless the app is covered by a perApp license ($10/user/month)
